Relief for Valencia as medical tests show no major damage to Diego López’s knee, according to Superdeporte.

The Asturian was due to start against Levante UD but was withdrawn from the squad late on. He watched his team-mates win the Valencian derby from the stands at the Ciutat.

After the Levante game, Carlos Corberán explained that López twisted his knee while striking the ball in a finishing drill the previous day. It seemed minor at first and that he would be available, but the discomfort increased on matchday.

He is in pain and is a serious doubt for the Villarreal CF match. How he progresses this week will determine whether Corberán can select him.

His absence is not expected to be prolonged, and ahead of Osasuna’s visit he is likely to be involved.
