Diego López suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against Barça and is not expected back until early 2027.

After 10 days weighing up where to have the operation, he has chosen Madrid for the procedure, El Chiringuito reports. He had considered Valencia, where his family live, but changed his mind and will be operated on in the capital.

His rehabilitation will take place in Valencia to regain full fitness as quickly as possible. He will place his trust in the same surgeon who operated on Sergi Canós a few months ago for a similar injury, Dr Leyes.

López has been a regular visitor to the Ciudad Deportiva de Paterna, using a crutch while plans for the best course of treatment are finalised.

He has cancelled his holidays and will only have a short period of rest following surgery. His aim is to return as soon as possible and in the best condition.
