According to Globo.com, a behind-the-scenes club video captured Fernando Diniz delivering an expletive-laden team talk before Vasco faced Fluminense at the Maracanã on Sunday.

Having won the first leg 2-1, Vasco saw the return finish 1-0 to Fluminense, Paulo Henrique putting through his own net. The tie went to a shootout, where Léo Jardim saved from John Kennedy and Cannobio to send the São Januário side through to face Corinthians.

After the warm-up, Diniz asked to address the group, noted the massed Vasco support and urged his players to tear into the game. He demanded courage and togetherness, and told them to play with heart.

The video also showed president Pedrinho watching on pensively as the squad prepared. Captain Vegetti told team-mates that no one deserved progression more, urged them to believe it, and cast the contest as one to play with hot blood.

Privately, Diniz framed the occasion as about survival and called for bravery across the group.
