Porto captain Diogo Costa is considering wearing the number two shirt next season after Villas-Boas challenged him to honour Jorge Costa.
"Obviously, I am very honoured by the challenge. At the same time, thinking about the number, it carries a lot of responsibility. It comes from someone [Jorge Costa] for whom I have great affection, but I am still thinking about it," he told ZeroZero.
"What matters most now is the game with Santa Clara, then I have the World Cup, and after that I will have time to decide. It is something that needs to be thought about."
Coach Francesco Farioli declined to interfere in his captain’s choice. "That was a very personal conversation between the president and Diogo. The decision will be taken and the club’s gesture is very important, but here Diogo has the right to decide."
"Wearing 99 is already a big responsibility, as is the armband, a legendary symbol of this club when you think of everyone who has worn it. We hope he continues to wear it for many years."
