Manchester City could see a loan agreement for Joel Ndala at Sheffield Wednesday terminated as a form of disciplinary action against the teenager.
The 19-year-old winger, widely regarded as one of the jewels of City’s Elite Development Squad (EDS), moved to the Championship in the summer to gain vital first-team experience.
While his pace and technical ability have provided flashes of brilliance in the Football League, his stint in South Yorkshire has most recently been overshadowed by concerns regarding his professional conduct off the pitch.
According to The Sheffield Star’s Alex Miller, disciplinary action has and will be taken against Manchester City’s on loan winger Joel Ndala after he turned up late for Sheffield Wednesday’s travel arrangements ahead of their defeat at Stoke City.
The 19-year-old is said to have previously been warned of his conduct, having arrived late for their home clash with Millwall in February and the Owls are now considering how they handle the situation – with the strongest course of action being a termination of his loan.
Whilst nothing is confirmed as of yet, all parties – including Manchester City – will come together to decide the best route forward for Ndala, with Sheffield Wednesday having a good working relationship with the Premier League club.
Should Wednesday proceed with a termination, Joel Ndala would return to Manchester and likely be limited to Premier League 2 football for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign – with no expectation of first-team promotion any time soon.
This would likely be viewed as a significant blow to his market value and hopes of following in the footsteps of the likes of Nico O’Reilly, who has successfully integrated into the City first team this season, most notably during a Carabao Cup triumph over Arsenal.
The ‘good working relationship’ mentioned by regional media could be a deciding factor in negotiations over Ndala, and while discipline is expected to be insisted upon, City will want to ensure that the player’s long-term trajectory is not irrevocably damaged.
