Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been recalled to the England squad for the March internationals, ending a five-year wait for a cap.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported his inclusion shortly before the official announcement.
The Leeds United forward burst into form in November and December, scoring in six straight Premier League matches. He has 10 goals in 27 top-flight outings this season, and his overall contribution has been central to keeping Leeds above the relegation places. He has logged 2,031 Premier League minutes.
Signed as a free agent last summer after leaving Everton, Calvert-Lewin has repaid Leeds' faith in managing his fitness, similar to approaches taken with Manor Solomon and Junior Firpo. The club believed they could keep him available, and that work has held.
Thomas Tuchel has selected a 35-man group for the camp and said it will be split, with lesser-used players brought in to widen the picture and the fight for seats on the plane to the US. Later, around 10 or 11 rested players will join before the Japan fixture.
England face Uruguay and Japan at Wembley. Calvert-Lewin will compete up front with first-choice striker Harry Kane and Tottenham Hotspur’s Dominic Solanke.
