Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been left out of England’s 2026 World Cup squad, while former Leeds loanee Djed Spence is included for the tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Thomas Tuchel confirmed his 26-man list on Friday morning. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Calvert-Lewin was not among the three strikers, with Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney selected alongside Harry Kane.
The Leeds United forward hit his 14th Premier League goal in last weekend’s 1-0 win at Brighton, drawing level with Watkins as the division’s top English scorer.
Toney has not featured in a Tuchel squad for almost 12 months, last appearing in a June friendly against Senegal. He has 32 goals in 32 Saudi Pro League games this season.
Calvert-Lewin ended a five-year wait for an England return in March, playing just over half an hour off the bench against Uruguay before a pre-planned return to Thorp Arch ahead of Japan.
He told the club’s official podcast that the World Cup is a childhood dream, stressing selection is the manager’s call and that he can only keep scoring and see what follows.
Spence’s form has improved since rejoining Tottenham. His 2023 loan at Elland Road cost around £one million and ended early in January after seven outings under Daniel Farke.
Three Leeds team-mates have been called up elsewhere. Gabriel Gudmundsson will represent Sweden, Ao Tanaka travels with Japan and Noah Okafor goes with Switzerland, while Anton Stach has missed out on Germany.
