Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s wage demands have now come to light, as he weighs up his options, with Manchester United keeping a close eye on his situation.

Calvert-Lewin an option for United

United are on the hunt for striker reinforcements, but having missed out on top target Liam Delap, and with Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Benjamin Sesko all deemed too expensive, the club has been forced to think outside the box.

This is where Calvert-Lewin comes in.

The England international became a free agent at the end of June when his terms with Everton expired, bringing to an end his nine-year association with the Merseyside club.

During his time at Goodison Park, Calvert-Lewin netted 71 goals and provided an additional 22 assists in 23 appearances, including a career-best 16 strikes in the 2020/21 Premier League season.

However, injuries and fitness issues plagued the second half of his career with the Toffees, limiting him from nailing down a consistent run of games and performances.

But he remains an attractive option thanks to his Premier League experience and diverse skill set, including excellent hold-up play and aerial ability, which means suitors have not been lacking.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Newcastle had opened talks to sign Calvert-Lewin in a bid to beat United and other interested parties to his signature.

As Calvert-Lewin’s transfer situation rumbles on, his salary expectations have emerged, potentially creating a hurdle for United if they plan to pursue him further.

Calvert-Lewin’s salary expectations

CaughtOffside report, “Multiple sources have confirmed that Man United are emerging as serious suitors for Calvert-Lewin, though his wage demands could be an issue.”

“Sources with a close understanding of the player’s situation have informed CaughtOffside that Calvert-Lewin is likely to ask for as much as £100,000 per week.”

“This would almost certainly be seen as too expensive for Man Utd, even if a move for Calvert-Lewin appeals due to his status as a free agent and his experience in the Premier League.”

It’s understood that Ruben Amorim is going after Premier League players in an effort to raise the physical ceiling of his team. Ollie Watkins is another Premier League striker on United’s radar but Aston Villa have slapped a hefty price tag on him.

It remains to be seen whether United are put off by Calvert-Lewin’s wage demands or they’ll try to strike a compromise that works for all parties.
