Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s influence at Leeds United now stretches beyond goals, with his leadership becoming increasingly clear. Speaking on The Square Ball, it was relayed that Brenden Aaronson said Calvert-Lewin led the criticism at half-time against City despite not starting.
Phil Foden scored inside the first minute that day, amid talk Farke’s position was under threat. Leeds won the second half after a switch to a three-five-two, and it has since been seen as the day his job was saved, setting up a seven-match unbeaten run.
Calvert-Lewin joined in the summer after nine years at Everton, moving on a free. He initially opted against Leeds, then chose Leeds as the window progressed, rejecting Man United, Newcastle and Milan to be first choice.
He has eight goals so far, seven of them in six games before the draw with Liverpool. He has not scored in the last two, going close with a disallowed effort at Anfield as a substitute then a header against the post on Sunday against Man United.
Back in the starting line-up on Sunday after the Liverpool bench, he also delivered the on-pitch huddle speech. His Premier League experience has become a key asset in the dressing room.
Next up is Newcastle United on Wednesday night on Tyneside, then Derby away in the FA Cup on Sunday. Leeds then host Fulham, travel to Everton, and return to face Arsenal.
