Manchester United’s summer with regards to transfer has started on a slow note, with the Red Devils yet to make any sales or signings during the ongoing transfer window.

Alvaro Fernandez joined Benfica on a permanent transfer following the end of the last season, but the terms for his transfer were agreed in the winter window.

With Dan Ashworth’s appointment as the club’s new sporting director now confirmed, United’s transfer business for this summer is expected to pick up the pace.

In fact, it appears the Premier League giants may have already held successful negotiations to facilitate the permanent exit of one of their outcasts.

According to Relevo, United midfielder Donny van de Beek is set to join Girona FC.

The Catalan outfit seem to be in a bullish mode after entering the Champions League. They have already made two signings, and the Spanish outlet claim “the Girona team, just days away from starting its pre-season, has closed its third signing in the current market. It is the Dutch midfielder from Manchester United, Donny van de Beek.”

The Dutch international spent the second half of last season on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Bundesliga outfit reportedly had an option to turn his transfer into a permanent one for £9.5 million, but they decided not to take it up on the back of an underwhelming performance from the 27-year-old player.

Van de Beek, who has just 12 months remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, is not viewed as a player Erik ten Hag will count on in his third season at the helm. As such, his exit makes perfect sense for all parties involved.

It is claimed that ‘if nothing goes wrong, he will sign with Girona.’ In that event, United will be paid around €500,000 for their midfielder’s services. He moved to Old Trafford in the summer of 2020 for a fee thought to be in the region of £35m.

Meanwhile, this move will also pave the way for the ex-Ajax sensation to reunite with his former teammate Daley Blind, who has seen a resurgence in form following his switch to La Liga.

While United are closing in on losing one of their midfielders, they are working on strengthening the position by retaining Sofyan Amrabat’s services.

The Moroccan midfielder is due to return to Fiorentina ahead of the new season. However, The Peoples Person recently covered a report claiming that United are working on signing him on a permanent transfer.
