American billionaire John McEvoy has become the latest name linked with a potential takeover of Sheffield Wednesday.

It's been a hectic week at Hillsborough, after the club filed for administration, effectively ending Dejphon Chansiri's decade-long reign as owner of the club.

The administrators from Begbies Traynor have been busy outlining what they require for prospective buyers to take over the club, with "four or five" serious bidders coming in immediately, three of which have shown proof of the £50 million required to take over the club.

Whether one of them is John McEvoy is yet to be known, but the businessman from the USA, who already has small connections with Sheffield-born musicians due to his minority stake in talent agency Various Artists, was said to be among the leading candidates, according to a report from The Telegraph.

Some Sheffield Wednesday fans are still not yet over the fact that their former owner is out of the door, and even more are struggling to not let themselves be carried away by the constant positive updates surrounding the future of their club.

Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit praises administrators' transparency

Patrick McKenna, FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit, is revelling in this period. Administration can sometimes be the beginning of the end for football clubs, but in Wednesday's case, it offered them a way out of Dejphon Chansiri's ownership.

There's arguably been more communication between the administrators and Owls fans over the past week than there was for the final few months under the Thai businessman, which is a nice feeling.

Regarding the links between McEvoy's possible purchase of the club, McKenna isn't letting himself get carried away, as there have been numerous people linked with the club in the past week.

"With names coming out regarding takeovers, it's been mentioned that there have been around 60 approaches in total, some obviously joke bids, but administrators have spoken about four or five serious bidders," he said.

"It totally dispelled the myth that no one wanted to buy Sheffield Wednesday, and the process to find a new owner and initiate a sale process is underway.

"I have to give a special mention to the administrators in the short time they've been running the club. They've been fantastic, very professional, and they've clearly communicated to the fans what is happening, which makes a huge, huge difference.

"It's clear that they're a million miles away from Chansiri, and they're going to get this process done properly and as quickly a timescale as possible."

Patience is key for Sheffield Wednesday as new ownership looms

Ultimately, whilst this is an exciting time for Wednesday fans, McKenna hopes that the due diligence taken by the administrators is continued all the way until a sale is made.

The last thing that Sheffield Wednesday needs is for the next owner to be on the same level of incompetence as Chansiri was. That would be a downright disaster, but luckily enough, the Owls fan pundit thinks that the chances of this happening are slim.

"They won't rush or cut corners," McKenna added. "They have come out and stated some timescales for when they expect a preferred bidder to be chosen and for a sale to be completed, but they won't let anyone waste their time.

"All we ask for in this process is transparency, and I think that things will move at a quick pace compared to other clubs in administration.

"What I will say, though, is don't rush anything. We're celebrating the removal of Chansiri, but after that, we know there is still a long road ahead. I have every faith that the administrators will follow this process, and that we'll get a new owner sooner rather than later."

There have been several parties linked to a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday. Alongside McEvoy, the likes of John Textor and Mike Ashley have been monitoring proceedings at Hillsborough over the past week or so.

Ultimately, it can be easy to be impatient here, seeing all the linked names but no white smoke off the back of it, but those Wednesday fans who are may need reminding of where they've just come from.
