Dorival Jr sees Corinthians on top despite draw with Santos

Corinthians drew 1-1 against Santos at Vila Belmiro in a match valid for the fourth round of the 2026 Campeonato Paulista. The goals were scored by Yuri Alberto for Timão, and in the final minutes of the match, Gabigol equalized for Santos.

In the post-match press conference, after commenting on the refereeing, Dorival Jr highlighted the good performance by his team, which he considered the best of the 2026 season: “It was a balanced game. In the first half, we had a high gain. In the second, we have eight days of preparation… There’s no way to keep up the pace for 90 minutes. We’re doing everything we can to keep the team on the field. All the substitutions were due to fatigue, made at the players’ request.”

The coach also saw Corinthians dominate Santos, but believes that in the second half, the short preseason took a toll physically: “Of these four games, this was the best. Solid, balanced, a team aware, respecting the opponent, winning most of the duels, that gave us a positive condition in the match. I hope we can maintain this condition. That’s what took us to the direct fight for the Copa do Brasil. It was this attitude. It’s essential that we can repeat it more often.”

Corinthians return to the field this Sunday (26), when they face Velo Clube away, in a match valid for the fifth round of the 2026 Campeonato Paulista, with Timão having collected only five out of a possible twelve points in the competition so far.
