Corinthians fell 3-1 to Fluminense at the Maracanã on Thursday night, and Dorival Júnior acknowledged attacking shortcomings despite a strong share of possession, stressing the impact of recent absences up front.

According to Meu Timao, he said the system relies on Yuri as the most advanced option. When the striker is at his level the team functions, but when he is not their play suffers because his skill set is unmatched within the squad.

He urged patience as new attacking recruits adapt, noting one debut in Rio, Zakaria’s second outing, and Kaio’s sole 45 minutes so far against Santos, when he impressed. He added that academy players are only beginning to stake claims.

Dorival underlined the value of cohesion and consistent selections, arguing that a lack of continuity can drag on performance in more demanding fixtures. He maintained that work is being done, that the side had been among the competition’s leaders for possession, and that level can return. This season’s additions include Jesse Lingard and the returning Pedro Raul, back after a long 2025 loan, with the no. 37 currently the only player in the treatment room.

He expressed confidence the squad will rediscover their path, saying strong training displays have not yet appeared in matches as hoped. Corinthians sit 11th in the Brasileirão on 10 points and could be drawn towards the relegation places depending on other results. They host Internacional on Sunday at 19:30 at the Neo Química Arena in round 10.
