Dortmund and Leipzig linked with unlikely bid €35m Chelsea star who started yesterday

We’re into the final stretch of the transfer window now, and it’s fair to say that Chelsea have had a good summer.

They didn’t get the result they wanted last night, but they did show off their new and improved bench, with added depth throughout the squad giving us a fearsome selection of players to choose from. But for as well as they’ve done in building a solid group, those in charge could yet weaken their squad to balance the books.

CaughtOffside have been given information by “sources close to the agents industry” that the club could considering selling Chalobah, tempted by the €35m or more pure profit they could generate.

At that price, and with a current salary of just €3m per year, we can see why some big clubs would fancy a punt on the Cobham raised Chalobah. Inter Milan are named as one interested party. Crystal Palace (who had him on loan last year), Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also named as suitors.

Chelsea sale of Chalobah feels as unlikely as it ever has after Colwill injury

The good news is that we really can’t see this being true. Even at the start of the summer we suspected that the Blues hierarchy had finally cottoned on to the fact that Chalobah was a cheap, reliable, popular, good, versatile  homegrown player who they would be mad to sell.

Perhaps a big offer back in June might have convinced them – but since then we’ve got Levi Colwill for the season, and selling him now, with the season already having started, would be mad.

Right now it feels more likely that a central defender is bought than sold, and we can’t stress how unlikely it feels that the reliable 26 year old is let go.
