Doug King has discussed Coventry's rail link at the CBS Arena after issues supporters have had this season.

Coventry City are on the verge of promotion to the Premier League, with Frank Lampard’s side needing four points to guarantee their return to the top flight.

They could secure promotion on Saturday, providing the Sky Blues beat Sheffield Wednesday and other results go their way.

Either way, it’s a case of when not if for the Midlands outfit, and it will bring Premier League football back to the city for the first time in over 25 years, with the club having endured a lot in that period, which includes playing games outside of Coventry and dropping to the fourth tier.

So, it will be an emotional day when the Sky Blues’ promotion is confirmed, but it won’t be long before the hard work starts on preparing for life back among the elite.

Doug King discusses improving rail links at Coventry’s CBS Arena

When it comes to adapting to life in the Premier League, the improvements aren’t restricted to the team, as they will need to address the infrastructure as well.

One common complaint for Coventry fans has been the rail link to the CBS Arena, as the services are often limited, and, for certain night games, there have been no trains at all.

With the club almost certain to sell-out every game next season, along with big away followings, this is an issue that needs to be rectified.

And, speaking to Coventry Live, King has confirmed that discussions are taking place with the relevant figures, as he stated they are aware of the problem.

“Listen, I think when we’ve shown the credibility that we’ve shown on the last three years of what we’ve done at the club and obviously, touch wood, we’re heading to where we’re heading, it’s not going unnoticed with the wider powers.

“I think the West Midlands mayor, Richard (Parker), is doing big things around for the area and the region. We’ve seen big investment in Edgbaston and these sort of things. He’s been to a few of our games and he understands that situation. It’s not lost on all of us.

“But the beauty is that the hardware is in. Maybe there’s some other stuff that needs to be juggled but listen, we’re all joined up together, finally, right? I mean, the council isn’t fighting them, we’re not doing this over here… If we are in the Premier League the impact on this region of eyes on over that period of time, and people want to come and be part of it, and what is seen internationally of our football club and our city is enormous.

“That’s not lost on the people who are served in making this a destination and getting more business and more people come to see it and enjoy it. They understand that we’ve got a high class sporting arena and football team that’s on the doorstep. So it’s a case of there’s better stuff for your business here, sir, and why don’t you come over there, sir?”

Coventry City are ready to make their mark in the Premier League

This has been a huge frustration for some fans, and whilst it may not seem a big issue to others, it can impact the overall matchday experience if you have to wait around or can’t get away quickly.

King’s comments here are encouraging, because, as he says, there will be a spotlight on the club if they reach the Premier League, so it’s something they have to improve.

Clearly, this isn’t something you can do overnight, and talks need to take place with various people to make it happen, which it seems is happening.

When Coventry do win promotion, there will be a focus on enhancing all areas of the club, and, as outlined above, it will be about giving fans the best matchday experience possible.

That’s a way to increase revenue, by getting supporters into the ground early, which is something they need to look at as well. So, hopefully there will be concrete updates over the coming weeks, as it will be a big help to Coventry and away fans.
