Lamine Yamal left injured after Barcelona’s match with Celta, with the extent to be confirmed in the coming hours. Early suspicion is a hamstring problem, a worry for Barcelona and Spain so close to the World Cup.

Speaking to Cadena Ser, Dr Pedro Luis Ripoll said the issue could be complicated. “This injury has a 30% recurrence rate, so great care is needed. We must be extremely cautious with the recovery timeline.”

He said severity depends on location. “If it is in the muscle belly, the prognosis is more benign. If it is at the muscle tendon junction or in the tendon, it could be more serious, at least four to six weeks.”

“It is too early to say whether it looks more like a tear or a strain,” he added. “Selectors such as Luis de la Fuente want players fit and match sharp. A call-up seems difficult because the recurrence rate is 30% and you lose a player for the World Cup.”

Yamal will undergo detailed tests shortly. He is likely to miss El Clásico against Real Madrid and could even be out for the league run-in. The World Cup is 50 days away, and his progress will determine any decision.
