Aerial footage has captured Leeds United pressing on with immediate works at Elland Road as their redevelopment begins. According to a video posted on the CC Overview YouTube channel, changes around the West Stand and beyond are already visible.
The project received planning permission earlier this year and is set to lift capacity to around 53,000. Leeds intend to rebuild the West Stand first, then turn to the North Stand to modernise the ground and meet heavy ticket demand.
Work began almost as soon as the final home game ended, with journalists asked to vacate the media room beneath the West Stand by seven pm so activity could start.
Portakabins that had served as away dressing rooms since Marcelo Bielsa’s top-flight return season have been removed, having originally been supplied by York firm Britcab to meet Covid protocols. The units were returned to Britcab’s lab last week.
The footage also shows partial demolition of the ticket office and a building that housed some LUTV operations. The floodlights have come down and crests have been taken off the banqueting suite at the rear of the West Stand.
Behind the North Stand, a temporary structure expected to host corporate facilities during the works was already rising before the season ended.
