Duo get third yellow, miss Corinthians’ next Brasileirão game

With a goal from defensive midfielder Maycon, Corinthians beat Atlético-MG on Saturday night, October 18, at Neo Química Arena, by a score of 1-0, in a match valid for the 29th round of the Brazilian Championship. The result left the Alvinegro provisionally in 12th place in the national tournament with 36 points (nine wins, nine draws and 11 losses – 31 goals scored and 35 conceded).

Despite the win, coach Dorival Júnior’s staff got a headache. That’s because right-back Matheuzinho and midfielder Maycon were shown their third yellow card in the second half of tonight’s match and will not be available for the game against Vitória next Saturday (25), at 4 p.m. (Brasília time), at Estádio Barradão, for the 30th round of the Brasileirão.

At right-back, during the No. 2’s absences, Corinthians had at times been improvising center-back Félix Torres, who hasn’t played for Corinthians since August 27 – almost two months – or could use João Vitor ‘Jacaré’, 18, a youth academy product who has appeared in two first-team matches this season.

As for replacing the No. 7, the coaching staff has options such as Charles, José Martínez, Ryan, or even deploying Breno Bidon deeper. At the moment, it’s worth remembering, the Alvinegro has the following players recovering or in the final phase of physical transition due to injury: center-back André Ramalho (final phase of physical transition after a muscle injury), midfielder André Carrillo (final transition phase after a ligament injury to the left ankle), and forward Vitinho (recovery process from knee surgery).
