WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Wildcats this afternoon.
The 23-year-old moves to Maiden Castle after virtually being made redundant by former club Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season following their decision to withdraw from the elite game. Toland spent two seasons with Blackburn Rovers in which she cemented her place in the team’s midfield. She helped the Lancashire club to exceed all expectations under former head coach Simon Parker.
The youngster arrives in the North East with an impressive CV which includes spells with Barclays Women’s Super League side Manchester City and Glasgow giants Celtic.
On the international stage, Toland has been capped by the Republic of Ireland on 25 occasions while she has scored one goal.
After joining Durham, Toland said “It feels great to be here. When I’ve played against Durham, I always felt that I’d love to be here. It’s a great club with great ambitions and great people, so I can’t wait to get going.
“I’ve played against the team for two seasons and it’s always been a team that I’ve admired and I feel like I can fit into the playing style. I just want to get to know everyone and get going and see what the season has to hold for us.”
Toland is Durham’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window.
