Cristian Chivu will make his touchline debut in the Champions League tonight.

Indeed, the San Siro giants take on Ajax at the start of the league phase, seeking redemption for last season’s fiasco.

Despite reaching the grand final for the second time in three years, Inter slumped to a catastrophic loss in Munich.

Paris Saint-Germain thrashed the Nerazzurri 5-0, shortly before Simone Inzaghi decided to bid farewell to Italy.

Now it’s up to Chivu to pick up the slack.

However, the Serie A runners-up head into proceedings off the back of a morale-wracking 4-3 defeat at Juventus.

Stefan de Vrij was on the bench in that match. However, he will be part of the starting line-up this evening.

Asked what the best way for Inter would be to regain confidence, De Vrij replied: “With a win, that’s the most important thing.

“We need to get results, performances have been there, but the results have been lacking.

“We have to improve starting tonight.”

Meanwhile, he also admitted he spoke to Yann Sommer after Inter’s defeat in Turin.

Sommer had an awful night, failing to make a single save.

Furthermore, many identified him as the main culprit for Inter’s Derby d’Italia loss.

“Those are locker room matters,” De Vrij claimed. “We’re a team, we’re all players who make mistakes.

“The important thing is to help each other and give our best for the team. Only that way can we start winning again.”
