The United squad based in the Tyrol, Austria, for a pre-season training camp this week.

Eddie Howe talking about how preparations are going with just over four weeks until the new season kicks off.

This training camp will then lead to the Newcastle United heading off to Glasgow to play Celtic on Saturday, their first summer friendly in front of fans, including 10,000+ in the away end.

United having won 4-0 last Saturday in a behind closed doors friendly against Carlisle.

Eddie Howe talking to official club media in Austria, at the pre-season training camp – 17 July 2025:

“It has been really good, they have come back in with a very good focus.

“We had a smaller group to start with, then the internationals returned in time for this trip [to Austria].

“We are really pleased with the training. It has been intense, as always, but really high quality.

“And as I said, the players look like they are very driven.

“Very single-minded in their approach this season.

“So yes, so far so good.”

“You mentioned about the internationals coming back later, can you just explain how it is all structured and why?”

Eddie Howe:

“Yeah, naturally, just because they had an extended season with the international calendar.

“So a lot of those guys stayed on and trained and they have to stay fit for their countries, played. So really their breaks, sort of around three weeks.

“We have talked to individual players to see if they needed a little longer, we always tailor it through the individual.

“So we are happy that when they come back in, they come back refreshed and ready to work.

“So we have no issues and they have all come back in really good shape.”

“Can you tell us a bit about what it has been like here in Austria, what the facilities are like from that perspective?”

Eddie Howe:

“Yeah, facilities are excellent.

“I mean, lovely hotel.

“You can see we are right in the heart of mountain, forest land.

“Pitches have been good.

“Weather perhaps not what we expected. Expected it to be hot and it hasn’t been so far. Overcast and a bit drizzly.

“In some senses I think the players will be pleased with that.

“I think we have everything we need.
