Eddie Howe ‘to leave’ Newcastle, Matthias Jaissle tipped to replace him | OneFootball

According to The Athletic, Eddie Howe, 48, has decided to leave his role as Newcastle head coach to step away from football, a little over three weeks before the Premier League season begins.

Newcastle now face a swift transition to a new manager. Matthias Jaissle, currently in charge of Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, is being tipped to replace him.

Howe took the job in 2021 after 11 years across two spells at Bournemouth, from 2008 to 2011 and 2012 to 2020, separated by a short stint at Burnley.

He has overseen 231 matches for the Magpies and won the League Cup in 2025, the club’s first domestic trophy in 70 years.

He had opted to remain in post at the end of last season.

Jaissle has led Al-Ahli to the AFC Champions League title in 2025 and 2026. Both Newcastle and Al-Ahli are majority-owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, PIF.
