Eddie Howe sees Tino Livramento as a vital part of Newcastle United’s future despite the current friction regarding his contract extension. Football Insider recently shared insights from Keith Wyness, the former chief executive of Everton and Aston Villa.
Wyness suggests that the Magpies face a real problem in securing the defender’s long-term commitment. Although the club wants to lock the 23-year-old down, Livramento appears to have paused negotiations. This pause creates a tense mood similar to the ongoing situation with Alexander Isak. Such hesitation makes things difficult for the recruitment team as they try to settle the squad for next season.
Because of this, rumours about Manchester City’s interest put even more pressure on these talks. The big money offered at the Etihad Stadium often pulls in even the most loyal players. Wyness notes that Howe thinks very highly of the young full-back.
He wants the player to lead his defensive setup at St James’ Park. Since the manager sees so much talent in the former Southampton man, losing him now will be a massive blow for the project on Tyneside. Also, the player’s age fits exactly what the owners want. This makes keeping him a main goal for the coaching staff.

“Well, I think they’re going to try [to keep Livramento], and I think Livramento has stalled on his contract negotiations.
“So what Newcastle are finding themselves in is similar to the Isak situation, where you’ve got a player holding out, and they’re going to have to take that into account and either resolve it or get it done quickly.
“Now, it depends on what Man City are offering in terms of money. I know that Eddie Howe rates Livramento very highly. He would like to build a team around him. And he’s the right age for them to do that.”
The defender has a rare mix of pace and attacking skill. Hence, Howe refuses to let him go easily. However, the club needs to move fast to end this standoff. They should finish these talks before bigger clubs emerge with huge offers during the transfer window.
If Newcastle fails to reach an agreement soon, they might lose a player they spent a lot of money to get. Now, the pressure keeps building as supporters wait for news regarding a breakthrough in these talks.
Newcastle are doing the right thing by focusing on Livramento. His ability and age give the team a strong base for the future. If they want to replace someone like him, it would cost a fortune that Newcastle could use on other positions. If they keep him, it helps the team stay consistent and shows they can still hold onto top talent against rival clubs.
