Ederson has signed a new contract with Atalanta after the collapse of his proposed move to Manchester United

The 27-year-old’s previous deal was set to expire in 2027, but the Serie A club have announced they have tied him down to a new contract.

Ederson looked destined to join United after they agreed a deal worth £35 million.

However, they pulled the plug on the transfer after a full medical raised injury concerns.

They could resurrect the move for Ederson later in the transfer window, albeit not for the previously agreed terms.

With United set to compete on multiple fronts next season, the club’s hierarchy are looking to add quality and depth to their squad.

Bolstering midfield has been their main focus this summer. They have recently signed midfielders Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos from Aston Villa and Chelsea.

However, they are still in the market for a third midfielder following Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte’s long-term injury.

United have identified Roma’s Manu Kone as a good option and could formalise their interest with a transfer bid.

The Premier League giants are also targeting a new left-back and a left winger this summer.
