France opened their World Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over Senegal at MetLife Stadium in New York, and Edouard Mendy conceded their plan never came off. "We did not manage to put the game plan in place, it was a bit laboured, even in the first half. We knew in the second we had to raise the level and be more incisive going forward, we only managed that in spells," he said, speaking to beIN Sports.
The match was the tournament bow for both sides.
The Al-Ahli goalkeeper was beaten three times, twice by Kylian Mbappé, now the Bleus’ all-time top scorer.
"Opposite us, it is pure talent, and every half chance is very dangerous for us," Mendy said.
Senegal next face Norway on Tuesday 23 June, with a two am kick-off.
