Things are not going to plan as far as Manchester United’s wish to overhaul their midfield is concerned. Coming into this summer, INEOS were expected to make at least two, if not three, quality midfield signings.
Casemiro, whose time at Manchester United was coming to an end, needed replacing, and after the monstrous season he produced, that was always going to be tricky.
Beyond the Brazilian, there was also a need to upgrade on Manuel Ugarte, who has unfortunately failed to find his footing at Old Trafford.
Replacing the two and landing one more quality midfielder was what United needed to do.
So far, they have only agreed a deal for one midfielder, Ederson, which is a great signing.
However, securing deals for other top targets has become far more difficult following the arrival of the Samba star. Dream targets like Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes are instead joining rivals.
Now, INEOS faces the tough task of nailing down other brilliant midfield talent.
Earlier today, The Peoples Person relayed a report suggesting that another brilliant midfielder United could pivot to, Eduardo Camavinga, might also soon be unreachable, with claims he had been offered to noisy neighbours Manchester City.
Fortunately, though, those claims have been refuted by European transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, he stated, “At the moment, on Manchester City, I don’t have a confirmation about any proposal or any advanced negotiation. It’s just something that Manchester City know that Real Madrid could open doors to the exit of Camavinga, and Manchester City are opening to the possibility of signing one more midfielder after Elliot Anderson, but, at the moment, that’s the situation around Camavinga.”
City not being anywhere near striking a deal for Camavinga is good news for United, and INEOS can breathe easy as a result.
Behind the scenes, though, United should look to persuade the French superstar to push for a move, especially given the suggestions he is not so keen on leaving Madrid.
Surely, should United promise him a key role and a chance to change his fortunes after years on the fringes at the Bernabeu, something that cost him a spot in France’s 2026 World Cup squad, he would probably push for a move himself.
With his green light, United could finally unlock a potential move for his services.
Given his press-resistance, elite ball-carrying and tenacious tackling, signing Camavinga could prove the perfect response to the Fernandes transfer snub.
