Manchester United are the club most interested in bringing Eduardo Camavinga to the Premier League if the 23-year-old midfielder leaves Real Madrid, according to a Spanish journalist.

Fixing the Engine Room

The Red Devils are focusing on a major revamp in midfield this summer, as Kobbie Mainoo is currently the only option in Michael Carrick’s engine room with a long-term future at Old Trafford.

Despite a resurgence in performance, INEOS have decided against triggering a one-year extension in Casemiro‘s contract, with the Brazilian close to signing for Inter Miami on a free transfer.

Manuel Ugarte has proven to be an ineffective deputy to Casemiro and will be sold if a suitable offer arrives. There is interest from Italy and Türkiye in the Uruguay international, who United hope can enhance his market value with a strong World Cup campaign.

A £39 million deal has already been struck for Atalanta dynamo Ederson, a player with a similar profile to Ugarte, albeit one more suited to the cut and thrust of Premier League football. West Ham starlet Mateus Fernandes is next on the agenda, though the Hammers’ asking price of £85 million is proving an obstacle.

However, United remain intent on signing a ‘marquee’ midfielder to help effectively replace Casemiro, though the club’s primary target, Elliot Anderson, looks set to join local rivals Manchester City for a potentially record-breaking fee.

Real Madrid superstar Aurelien Tchouameni is considered a “dream target” by United’s hierarchy, with recruitment director Christopher Vivell understood to be pushing hard for the 26-year-old France international.

There is said to be quiet optimism that a blockbuster raid can be pulled off as Jose Mourinho’s arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu is set to shake things up, even if the player and his club are both happy to continue their working relationship.

Open to the Premier League

One midfielder whom the Spanish giants are reportedly ready to force through the exit door is Camavinga, with Real willing to sacrifice the 23-year-old to generate funds for Mourinho’s favoured targets, including Manchester City maestro Rodri.

A report relayed by The Peoples Person revealed Los Blancos want to sell Camavinga after a poor season, even if he would prefer to remain. And, speaking on his YouTube channel, Miguel Serrano confirms this intention.

The Spanish reporter reveals Real’s executive branch want Mourinho to directly communicate to the player that he is the last choice in midfield, and that an exit is in his best interest as much as the club’s.

Serrano goes on to say Camavinga’s agents have sounded out potential suitors, with the Frenchman believed to be open to a switch to a top club in the Premier League if forced to leave. He would also be willing to join either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain, though neither side considers him a target.

Juventus are one of the clubs to have registered the strongest interest, though the Old Lady would not be able to meet Real’s €60 million (£52 million) asking price, nor would Camavinga want to play in Italy. Inter Milan have also been credited as an admirer.

Out of the “top six in England”, Serrano claims United have taken the closest look and shown the most interest in striking a deal, though Liverpool are also understood to be in the hunt. However, it is unclear whether the recent capture of Ederson and the pursuit of Fernandes – two midfielders best deployed as No.8s, the same as Camavinga – will affect this interest.

Final Thoughts

Despite a poor campaign, Camavinga remains a world-class operator with a potent pairing of physical and technical quality. His versatility, being capable of playing across a variety of roles in midfield and even as a left-back, is another bonus for a United squad requiring reinforcements in both areas.

However, the Rennes academy graduate is not the natural No.6 INEOS are desperate to add to their ranks, nor does his recent injury history suggest he will handle the jump in intensity from Spain to England easily, even if he has the skillset to do so.

If United can strike a cut-price deal for a Champions League-winning midfielder, it is a difficult package to say no to. But if Real insist on a high fee for a player who already feels he has achieved his dream at the Bernabeu, INEOS are likely to pass on the chance to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams.
