Eduardo Camavinga’s place at Real Madrid is under growing scrutiny after a costly mistake at Mallorca, and the club are giving greater thought to a summer sale, according to L'Équipe.

The Frenchman was blamed for the opener in Saturday’s 1-2 defeat, losing Manu Morlanes then failing to recover. Afterwards, coach Alvaro Arbeloa criticised the lapse without naming him.

Supporters and Madrid media were scathing, portraying a player who has regressed, exerts little influence and appears unable to change the trend.

Camavinga, 23, was the first player withdrawn on the hour. He has slipped behind 18-year-old Thiago Pitarch in midfield, and Jude Bellingham’s return will deepen the competition. He is likely to return to the bench.

His minutes could fall over the run-in, potentially endangering his World Cup hopes between 11 June and 19 July, with France’s squad due in a little over a month. His versatility is valued by Didier Deschamps, who wants three options in every role, but that may not be enough to keep him at Real next season.

Signed in summer 2021, he is still highly rated, but club figures are frustrated by injuries, inconsistency and his limited impact. This fifth season was set as a decisive gauge of his future, and, with a contract to 2029, a sale is now being seriously considered if a strong offer arrives. The club also want to bring in one or two midfielders in the next window.
