EFL confirms play-off finals and end-of-season timeline

The English Football League has set this season’s Wembley play-off finals for the Spring Bank Holiday weekend in May.
According to BBC UK, the semi-final dates and kick-off times have been confirmed following the regular season ending on Saturday, two May, all times BST.
Friday, eight May 2026: Championship A first leg, sixth v third, 20:00. Saturday, nine May: Championship B first leg, fifth v fourth, 12:30. League One A first leg, sixth v third, 15:00. League One B first leg, fifth v fourth, 20:00. Sunday, ten May: League Two A first leg, seventh v fourth, 15:00. League Two B first leg, sixth v fifth, 18:00.
Monday, 11 May: Championship A second leg, third v sixth, 20:00. Tuesday, 12 May: Championship B second leg, fourth v fifth, 20:00. Wednesday, 13 May: League One A second leg, third v sixth, 20:00. Thursday, 14 May: League One B second leg, fourth v fifth, 20:00. Friday, 15 May: League Two A second leg, fourth v seventh, 19:15. League Two B second leg, fifth v sixth, 20:00. Saturday, 23 May: Championship final, kick-off TBC. Sunday, 24 May: League One final, kick-off TBC. Monday, 25 May: League Two final, kick-off TBC.
This is the final season in which the Championship play-offs involve only the teams finishing third to sixth in two-legged ties. From 2026-27, eighth and seventh will visit fifth and sixth in one-off games, with the winners then facing third and fourth over two legs. There are no plans to expand the play-offs in Leagues One and Two, and this is the 40th season since their 1986-87 introduction.
