Eintracht Frankfurt are unlikely to trigger the €27m purchase clause in Arnaud Kalimuendo’s loan due to a major financial hurdle, Bild claims.
The 24-year-old joined Nottingham Forest from Rennes last summer for a reported £26m and has impressed on loan, with five goals and one assist from 11 starts.
With Frankfurt seventh and, at best, facing Conference League football next season, the fee is viewed as prohibitive.
On football grounds alone, the club would like to keep the Frenchman, who scored again in a 2-2 draw with FC Koln at the weekend, but the need to post a transfer profit makes any deal a tight squeeze.
No final decision will be made before the end of the season, although current signs point to the option not being taken up, which would see Kalimuendo return to Forest.
“He has gone over there, he is performing, he is scoring goals… but he is still very positive about his relationship with Forest. He talks to the other players regularly. He has been back to watch games.”
“He is heavily invested in Forest. He will return in the summer and we will see where his future lies at Forest, within the squad plan.”
