Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike scored the decisive goal as France beat Brazil 2-1 in a World Cup warm-up friendly on Thursday night.
The two nations met in a high-profile friendly fixture at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, USA, with France coming out on top.
Les Bleus, who will aim to reach a third consecutive World Cup final this summer, opened the scoring through Kylian Mbappe, whose 56th France goal moved him within one of equalling Olivier Giroud’s all-time record.
Mbappe lifted a first-half effort over Ederson, before France were dealt a blow when Dayot Upamecano was sent off after the break. The Bayern Munich defender was dismissed for a professional foul after impending Wesley just outside the area.
Despite their man disadvantage, France scored a second to seal the win. Ekitike’s effort from close range doubled France’s lead.
Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti introduced Brentford striker Igor Thiago for his debut in a bid to get back into the game and the South Americans pulled one back, through Bremer. However, the five-time world champions were unable to find an equaliser as France held on.
