Elano has taken charge of Santos’ academy and says Neymar is not happy, calling for more care, while standing by Robinho.
According to Globo.com, the former midfielder accepted the role a little over a month ago. He found problems and fresh motivation. He previously tried management, felt hurt by those experiences and does not intend to return.
Back home, he reunited with old friends such as Neymar. He believes the forward needs greater protection and supports his call-up for the World Cup.
He revealed he visited Robinho, a close friend from Santos, Manchester City and Brazil. He does not minimise the seriousness of the offence, with Robinho sentenced in Italy to nine years for rape. Elano says it is for those who commit such crimes to repair the damage and serve as an example, yet he will not turn his back on a friend.
Reflecting on his career, he recalled being part of two waves of the Meninos da Vila, scoring at the World Cup and playing from Ukraine to India. He shared dressing rooms with Adriano, Cafu, Ronaldinho and Kaká. Looking ahead, he outlined plans for Santos’ youth and argued Brazil need someone in his mould.
