Leeds United Women rounded off their FA WNL Cup group stage with a 5-2 victory away at York City this afternoon, with Ellie White scoring an impressive hattrick, Monique Watson scoring on her full debut, and fresh substitute Kath Smith finishing a half-volley.

Following on from last week’s 7-0 win at home the Blackburn, the Whites headed into their final Group U fixture top of the group and have now secured their place in the next round, with the draw taking place on the 29th September.

Speaking after the game, hattrick hero White said: “I thought the first half we started off solid, but we let them get back into it and it was annoying, so we had to come back out in the second half and really prove that they’re there for the taking.

“Having that 7-0 win, we bounced back and did the same this weekend, we proved that and it’s nice to start scoring goals because we’ve had a few disappointing results, but it’s good to get a good result.”

On maintaining momentum: “We all said in training this week that we needed to stay focussed, we need to not bring our levels down, so we’ve kept the intensity going and I think we proved this today.

“I surprised myself,” added White on scoring her hattrick. “They’ve been banging on to me about being composed in front of goal, so I’ve been focussing on that, so it’s nice to finally get on the scoresheet.”

On Norton: “The game when we were up there last, it was obviously a disappointing result, so we need to go up there and show them (what we're about) and keep the momentum.

“We want an FA Cup run and everyone does, we love the cup so I think that’s something we need to take to training and keep the momentum going.”
