Nottingham Forest midfielder has starred this term
Manchester City are reportedly leading the race to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
The England midfielder is thought to be heavily coveted moving towards the summer transfer window, with a number of Premier League clubs looking to strengthen their engine rooms.
Anderson is expeced to be a part of England’s World Cup squad this summer in Canada, Mexico and the United States after a superb season at the City Ground, despite Forest’s struggles.
Anderson, 23, has played in all 33 of Forest’s Premier League fixtures this term, scoring twice and laying on two assists from his deeper-lying position.
The former Newcastle man, who moved from Tyneside to Trentside in a £35million move in July 2024, is now on the radars of Man City and Manchester United, with the two clubs set to do battle for his signature.
Sky Sports reports that Pep Guardiola’s side have the upper hand, and the current Premier League leaders will likely be in the market for a new midfielder after it was announced that club captain Bernardo Silva would leave the Etihad Stadium once his contract expires this summer.
Mateo Kovacic and Nico Gonzalez are also thought to have uncertain futures in the north-west.
Meanwhile, United are reportedly after a minimum of two new midfielders, with Casemiro heading for the Old Trafford exit.
There is also uncertainty around whether Manuel Ugarte will stay after struggling to hold down a starting berth since Michael Carrick took charge.
It remains to be seen whether a deal will be able to be struck with Forest by either side, especially before the World Cup, and should Anderson light up the tournament, his price could skyrocket further.
Other midfielders that have been touted for a summer move are Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Real Madrid’s French pair Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, who has had previous interest from United.
