On Casemiro’s Old Trafford farewell, Elliot Anderson delivered two assists and a commanding midfield display that showed why Nottingham Forest would miss him if he leaves. According to NY Times, if he does move this summer, a switch to Manchester City is seen as likelier than returning as Casemiro’s replacement.
The 23-year-old set up Morato to make it 1-1 early in the second half, then teed up Morgan Gibbs-White to cut the deficit to 3-2 with 12 minutes left. United won 3-2.
Anderson also dispossessed Bruno Fernandes and glided past Casemiro, underlining his rise. Forest are understood to want well beyond £100 million if they are to consider selling.
It is reluctantly accepted at the City Ground that a serious offer, probably from City though United retain interest, could arrive in the coming weeks. Even so, the plan is to build on what is already in place, with no appetite for further upheaval after a four-manager season, and Vitor Pereira has restored calm and unity.
Whatever happens with Anderson, Forest do not intend to cash in on other leading assets in the window. They want to build around Gibbs-White, Neco Williams and Murillo, and hope to tie Williams to a new deal. Gibbs-White, the regular captain, has finished the 2025-26 season strongly.
Forest’s eight-match unbeaten league run ended at Old Trafford, yet safety was already secured and the away end stayed buoyant. Pereira has struck a chord with supporters and, with a fifth straight top-flight campaign ahead, optimism has returned.
