Manchester City want Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson and have had two offers rejected, the latest worth more than £120 million including £106 million guaranteed and £15 million in add-ons.

According to Nottingham Post, Forest are seeking a package up to £130 million for the 23-year-old England international, with owner Evangelos Marinakis wanting £110 million guaranteed and a further £20 million in add-ons.

If City meet that figure, Anderson would become the most expensive English player. It would top Arsenal's £105 million for Declan Rice and the British transfer record of £125 million paid by Liverpool for Alexander Isak. City's hierarchy are eager to move early after Pep Guardiola's exit, and it is believed they want a deal before England's World Cup campaign begins.

Despite their interest, City are reportedly considering walking away. It has been claimed chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak views £120 million as fair and does not want a bidding war.

Manchester United have monitored Anderson but, with the price escalating, are expected to step back as they cannot match those figures.

England manager Thomas Tuchel has called Anderson "the full package". He said the midfielder showed no sign of distraction during the 3-0 win over Costa Rica, and believes the transfer talk is pushing him on rather than weighing him down.
