Elye Wahi has begun the process of obtaining a Côte d'Ivoire passport and could represent the country at the 2026 World Cup, scheduled from 11 June to 19 July. The OGC Nice striker, a France Under-21 international in 2022 and 2023, is exploring a switch to the nation of his parents.

On Monday he attended the Côte d'Ivoire consulate in Paris for biometric passport enrolment, the consulate said in a Facebook post. Wahi, 23, is back in the Nice squad after a mid-February ankle sprain, with the team away to Angers on Saturday at 19:00 in Ligue 1’s matchday 26.

The former Montpellier, Lens and Marseille forward joined Nice on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt in January. He could therefore represent Côte d'Ivoire in the near future.

Émerse Faé’s side will face Germany, Ecuador and Curaçao in Group E at the World Cup in Mexico, Canada and the United States. Warm-up friendlies are set for 28 March against South Korea in London and 31 March against Scotland in Liverpool.

Wahi has represented France at Under-16, Under-17, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, earning 13 caps and scoring three goals with the U21s. Featuring in the friendly against France on 4 June in Nantes would be a nice nod.
