Emerson Royal ‘could be suspended’ after CNRD orders €650,000 payment by 13 April | OneFootball

Emerson Royal has been given opportunities under coach Leonardo Jardim, but off the pitch the Flamengo right-back has been ordered to pay €650,000 (R$ 3.8 million at current rates) by 13 April over a 2021 debt, or he risks suspension from football.

SBT reports that the Câmara Nacional de Resolução de Disputas ordered the payment to Link Assessoria Esportiva e Propaganda, the company of agent André Cury.

The agency has filed criminal complaints against the player for estelionato, criminal association and procedural fraud. Royal has given statements to the São Paulo Civil Police. Cury believes he was harmed, alleging the defender gained illicit advantage in a CNRD proceeding, a CBF body.

In 2019, representatives of Emerson Royal sued Cury’s firm seeking a commission from his move to Barcelona. Link, which managed his career, maintains that key transfer details were concealed, leaving it at a disadvantage in that case.

On the football side, Royal could feature against Cusco in Flamengo’s Libertadores opener on Wednesday 8, with Jardim rotating his wing-backs. Varela started the last game, so the former Barcelona full-back may get another chance in Peru.

The match is at Estadio Inca Garcilaso de la Vega in Cusco, at 3,400 metres. Globo, GETV and Paramount Plus will broadcast the tie.
