Corinthians announced on Wednesday that Emily Lima has been appointed head coach of the women’s first team on a two-season deal. A free agent since October after leaving Levante, she met the squad at the training centre and replaces Lucas Piccinato, dismissed last Friday.

Lima holds top-level Conmebol PRO, CBF Academy and UEFA licences and is a former player who represented Portugal. She becomes the first woman to manage the Brabas.

She was unveiled by Levante in August 2025, becoming the first woman to coach a Spanish club, but departed in October after struggling to deliver results. Since the change, Levante have remained bottom of Liga F with eight points from 21 games and a -27 goal difference.

In 2016 she became the first woman to lead Brazil’s senior side, opening with seven straight wins and an invitational trophy. Her 2017 exit provoked strong responses, with Cristiane, Maurine, Rosana Augusto, Fran Alberto and Andreia Rosa stepping away from the Seleção.

Her club career features São José, where she won the 2015 Paulista, the Jogos Abertos and Jogos Regionais in 2015 and 2016 and was 2016 Copa do Brasil runner-up, then Santos in 2017, winning the 2018 Paulista and finishing Libertadores runners-up.

Now 45, Lima is tasked with ending three straight runners-up finishes, to Palmeiras in the Paulista and Supercopa do Brasil and to Arsenal in the Copa das Campeãs. She has previously coached eight current Corinthians players, including Lelê, Tamires and Gabi Zanotti.
