According to a report from Sport Bild, Emre Can (31) is closing in on a contract extension at Borussia Dortmund.
Can’s current deal is set to expire in June, but both parties are close to reaching an agreement over a new two-year deal that will expire in June 2028, with his reported €9m salary expected to remain the same.
Per Sport Bild, Lars Ricken had a conversation with Can thanking him for his conduct last season despite the dismissal of Nuri Sahin, a coach in whom he was close with. The 31-year-old then supported Mike Tullberg and Niko Kovac despite his injury problems, which impressed club bosses.
Speaking last week, Can was asked about his expiring contract.
“I’m very happy here. I’ve also had some difficult times, but the club has always stood by me. That’s why, as things stand today, I believe I’ll still be playing football here at Borussia Dortmund next year,” he told Sky Germany.
Now, Can’s contract extension at BVB appears to be on the home stretch.
