Young Lions are looking to win a third consecutive European title
England’s Under-21 side continued their winning start to their European Championships qualification campaign with a rampant 4-0 win over Moldova.
The Young Lions ran riot at Stadionul Zimbru, where Manchester City striker Divin Mubama, currently on loan at Stoke City, struck a brace.
Chelsea’s Jamie Gittens, starting off the left flank, opened the scoring in the 28th minute, fed by Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri, as he flashed an effort inside Victor Dodon’s near post.
Nwaneri was the provider for Mubama’s first and the Young Lions’ second, measuring a through pass with laser-like precision for Mubama to latch onto and fire home to double the visitors’ tally.
Mubama, who has two goals in nine Championship games for Stoke this term, got his second of the evening from the penalty spot, after Fulham’s Josh King was felled in the area.
Mubama’s fellow City academy graduate Rico Lewis, starting at left-back for Lee Carsley’s men, added the icing on the cake with a powerful drive beyond Dodon’s reach to seal a second win in as many games.
England, the reigning European champions at under-21 level, return home on Monday to play Andorra in Derby.
Wales’ under-21s, meanwhile, have now conceded 13 goals in two games after they were decimated 7-0 by Belgium in Newport, which followed a 6-2 home defeat to Denmark.
