England have been dealt a blow ahead of their World Cup opener, with Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento out of the tournament.
England are finalising their preparations for the World Cup, and they face Croatia in their opening group game on Wednesday night.
And The Three Lions have been dealt a blow ahead of their opening game, with it reported by The Telegraph‘s Matt Law that Livramento is ‘out of the World Cup’.
Livramento was unlikely to start for England at the tournament, but he was an important squad player due to his ability to play full-back on either flank.
But Law is reporting that a hamstring issue will force Livramento to leave England’s camp and head home, with Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah chosen as his replacement.
The report claims:
‘England manager Thomas Tuchel is expected to replace Livramento, with Trevoh Chalobah, the Chelsea defender, thought to be among the options to come in as a last-minute replacement. ‘Tuchel can replace Livramento 24 hours before England’s first game against Croatia in Group L on Wednesday.’
Respected reporter David Ornstein subsequently confirmed this news and also stated that Chalobah will replace Livramento in the England squad. However, he has stated that Livramento has a calf issue.
Ornstein said on X: ‘Tino Livramento to miss World Cup with calf injury.
‘Not serious but major blow for Newcastle United defender & #England ahead of #2026FIFAWorldCup opener vs #Croatia – 23yo returning to #NUFC + Trevoh Chalobah called up @TheAthleticFC post @Matt_Law_DT.’
Newcastle United star Lewis Hall would be a more natural replacement for Livramento, and ex-Man Utd defender Paul Parker thinks he should be part of England’s World Cup squad.
“Lewis Hall is a very, very good left back,” Parker said.
“I’ve never seen him outbattled – he’s tenacious and he’s tough. He’s also very talented on the ball because of when he played in midfield during his Chelsea academy days.
“He’s just as comfortable getting forward as he is in defence, and I think he should be the first-choice pick for Thomas Tuchel in this England squad at left back.
“Compared to Miles Lewis-Skelly, I think there’s a bigger likelihood of getting good discipline from Hall in that left back position. Lewis-Skelly isn’t playing regularly enough for Tuchel to pick him as his first choice either, which is a bit of a shame.”
