The Lionesses ended the regular qualifying campaign with a straightforward victory, however, Spain went on to top the group on goal difference after their 6-1 victory over Iceland.
England started well on Merseyside and Lauren James was denied by the woodwork after 12 minutes. James was then involved again a minute later when she crossed for Jess Carter who headed home the opening goal.
Lauren Hemp was then denied by visiting keeper Kateryna Boklach before Maya Le Tissier fired over. Alessia Russo then spurned a good opportunity to score before Georgia Stanway poked home England’s second from close range.
James was close to making it three just before half-time but she sent a free-kick narrowly wide.
Niamh Charles sent an effort off target early in the second half but Ukraine came out much brighter and limited the number of clear chances created by England. The Lionesses had to wait until midway through the second half to add to their lead when Beth Mead thumped home a stunning free-kick.
Mead and Jess Park had chances to make it four in the final moments but neither player could take advantage as the game ended 3-0.
Tonight’s result means that England will enter the play-offs with their opponents being determined on 18 June 2026.
