European champions England will face world champions Spain in the league stage of the Women’s European Qualifiers for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027.

The league stage draw was conducted by UEFA just a short time ago. England entered the draw in Pot 2 and they therefore knew that they would face a top-ranked opponent in League A.

The draw determined that England will face world champions Spain in their latest League A campaign, along with Iceland and Ukraine. European qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 begins on Tuesday 3 March 2026. The Lionesses will play all opponents home and away in the usual league stage format with the final round of matches set to be completed on Tuesday 9 June 2026. The fixture schedule and final match dates will be confirmed in due course.

Should England win their group, they will automatically qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027. Failure to top the group will see Sarina Wiegman’s side enter the play-off system where further FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 qualification places will be up for grabs, along with UEFA Women’s Nations League promotion and relegation. The higher England finish in their group, the more favourable any play-off draw would be.

Spain defeated England 1-0 in the final at FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023. The Lionesses defeated the Spaniards 3-1 on penalties in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 final.
