City involvement

Three members of the City squad are hoping to feature in Saturday’s showdown, all of them representing England.

Our captain, Alex Greenwood, was an ever-present in the Lionesses’ march to Euro 2025 glory and even earned her 100th senior cap during the tournament.

She’s joined in the England squad by Khiara Keating, who’s looking to make her first international appearance, while Laura Blindkilde Brown has also received a call-up after an excellent start to the 2025/26 campaign.

Grace Clinton and Lauren Hemp miss out through injury, while Kerolin is also unavailable for Brazil.

Recent Success

The reigning European champions face their South American counterparts at the Etihad, and City played a key role in both England and Brazil’s success this summer.

For the Lionesses, four members of the current Blues squad were part of Sarina Wiegman’s side who retained their European crown with a penalty shootout win over Spain.

Greenwood and Hemp played in every match en route to that victory, with the former also scoring in the decisive shootout victory over La Roja.

Brazil, meanwhile, retained the Copa America crown for the fifth time in a row thanks to a shootout victory over Colombia.

Kerolin grabbed three goals at the tournament with a hat-trick in her nation’s 6-0 win over Bolivia.

Etihad history

This is only the second time a women’s international involving England will be played at the Etihad Stadium, 20 years on from a Euro 2005 victory over Finland.

A teenage Karen Carney secured a dramatic 3-2 win on that occasion, one year on from England’s men’s team playing Japan and Iceland at the Etihad in June 2004.

As part of the Three Lions’ build-up to Euro 2004, they drew 1-1 with Japan before beating Iceland 6-1 with former City man Darius Vassell scoring twice.
