England have already booked their place at the 2026 World Cup, yet Wembley’s penultimate qualifier against Serbia carries an energy of its own. This is a meeting shaped by form, expectation and a sense of audition, with players eager to convince Thomas Tuchel that they belong in his final squad.
Six wins from six, 18 goals scored and none conceded, England have advanced through qualifying with a calm authority. The recent 5-0 wins away in Latvia framed a team that understands its identity, even if Tuchel admitted displeasure with the atmosphere against Wales in a preceding 3-0 friendly. The travelling supporters in Riga answered with chants directed at the head coach, a moment he accepted with good humour.
The expectation at Wembley is renewed sharpness and a performance that reflects the growing depth in this squad. With only one more camp after this international window before Tuchel names his World Cup travelling party, every appearance counts.

Serbia were initially expected to be England’s hardest opponents in Group K, although September’s meeting in Belgrade told a different story. That defeat, followed by another loss to Albania, leaves Serbia chasing a play-off position. Their arrival in London comes with disruption and intrigue following the appointment of Veljko Paunovic, who once led Serbia to an Under-20 World Cup triumph in 2015.
Date and time: Thursday 13 November 2025, kick-off 7:45pm GMTVenue: Wembley Stadium
How to watch:ITV1 will broadcast the match live from 7pm, with free streaming available through ITVX.
England are without Marc Guehi after the Crystal Palace captain suffered a foot injury. Trevoh Chalobah has stepped in, with Newcastle pair Nick Pope and Anthony Gordon also withdrawing due to concussion and hip issues. James Trafford replaces Pope.
There are returns for Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Adam Wharton and Nico O’Reilly, while Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott earns his first senior call-up. Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ollie Watkins, Morgan Gibbs-White and Ruben Loftus-Cheek step aside, and there is still no recall for Jack Grealish, Trent Alexander-Arnold or Danny Welbeck. Cole Palmer remains unavailable.
England’s consistency through qualifying makes this a fixture they will expect to manage with composure. They have scored 13 goals in their last three outings and have avoided any defensive alarms. Serbia, still adjusting to Paunovic’s ideas, hope for a lift in performance but remain short of rhythm.
England to win, 3-0.
