Three Lions set to offer auditions ahead of summer World Cup

Arrivals: England
England host Uruguay in the first of two international friendlies in the final window before this summer’s World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States. Thomas Tuchel named a 35-strong squad for these fixtures against Uruguay and Japan in a bid to look at some of the players that have perhaps gone under the radar or have picked up in form in recent weeks.
There were some shock omissions, namely Real Madrid right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who missed out even with Chelsea’s Reece James and Kyle Walker both out with injury and international retirement respectively. It leaves plenty of questions as to who will feature for the Three Lions here, and whether they will be afforded enough time to make an impression on Tuchel ahead of this summer’s tournament.
Uruguay, meanwhile, are led by Real Madrid’s Champions League hero Federico Valverde, who is fresh off his hat-trick against Manchester City in the last 16 earlier this month. Keep up to date with all the latest with our live blog below.

England debuts for both Everton midfielder James Garner - who has had an excellent season - and goalkeeper James Trafford, whose season amounts to little more than his triple-save heroics against Arsenal in last weekend's Carabao Cup final. Now is the time to try new players, of course, with the final squad only two months away now.
