Enrique Riquelme has written to Florentino Pérez to seek a slower timetable for Real Madrid’s elections, Marca reports, with a call potentially imminent.

The businessman opens with formal courtesies, expressing respect and gratitude for what Pérez has represented over recent decades and crediting him with strengthening the club’s independence, institutional prestige and global standing.

Writing from Mexico while on business, he argues the moment calls for pause and that madridistas deserve time, calm and reflection.

He highlights the absence of ballot boxes, noting almost 20 years without a participatory election in which members are invited to shape the club together.

Riquelme says current deadlines do not encourage participation or listening in line with modern democracies, adding that members worldwide should have time and peace of mind to debate the future.

He proposes meeting Pérez in the coming days to agree a broader process, modernise the system and address long-standing gaps around postal voting and access to contact eligible members.

The president of Cox frames this as essential to secure another 20 years of greatness and to avoid rupture, polarisation and internal tension.

Anticipating insinuations, he states he meets all seniority and solvency requirements, citing Cox’s recent successful 2 billion dollars issuance and his 75% stake in the company.

He closes by recognising Pérez’s presidency as already part of football’s grandest history, while arguing that a participatory, calm and transparent process would be the ideal final flourish for Real Madrid’s future.
