Enzo Barrenechea has emerged among Juventus’ biggest transfer regrets after establishing himself as a key figure in Benfica’s midfield since leaving Turin. He spent five seasons with the Italian club before moving on.

Gazzetta suggests that the Argentine was a makeweight in the Douglas Luiz deal to Juventus, valued at 8 million euros plus 3 million in add-ons. In summer 2025 he joined Benfica on loan from Aston Villa, with a conditional obligation to buy set at around 15 million euros. The report adds his market value has doubled in under two years.

That rise fits a wider pattern in which Juventus have collected about 120 million euros for players now valued at 300 million. The regret list includes Dean Huijsen, Radu Dragusin, Matías Soulé, Kaio Jorge and Félix Correia.

This season Barrenechea has played 39 times for Benfica, with 22 outings in Liga Portugal Betclic and 13 in the Champions League. He has also featured in two Taça de Portugal ties, one Taça da Liga match and the Supertaça.

Across 2,840 minutes he has scored two goals and supplied one assist.
