Enzo Fernández (25) raised questions about his future at Chelsea just before the international break, hinting at a potential future departure from Stamford Bridge.

For the comments that raised those suspicions, the Chelsea captain was given a two-game ban by the club. It meant that he missed the win over Port Vale in the FA Cup. He will also miss the game against Manchester City this weekend.

A formal apology has been issued by Fernández’s agent, former Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Javier Pastore. However, further comments in an exclusive interview with Onze Mondial have reignited exit rumours.

“He will play in the World Cup this summer and finish the season with Chelsea. Now, we’ll wait for Chelsea to qualify for the Champions League because he wants to play in the biggest competitions and he is a winner,” said Pastore on Thursday. “After that, we’ll see. Honestly, we’re not thinking about that (Fernandez’s future) at the moment.”

Pastore added that reports linking Fernández with a move to his former club were “logical”, however, he sought to downplay the rumours of an impending move to Real Madrid. “I live in Madrid, so everyone is saying that he will go to Madrid… but it is more press talk than anything else,” said Pastore. Regardless, the Argentine’s comments are unlikely to dampen talk of a summer exit from Stamford Bridge.
